If staff does not comply with rules a warning will be issued.
I won't issue any warnings as it will affect our relationship. I will phone SEESA directly and ask them to issue one.
Leave
- Little Eden will not be closing down for any holidays like in 2012. Understand that you accepted a job in the hospitality industry and you are to be
available when needed.
- NO SWOPPING OF OFF DAYS allowed. You work the shift assigned to you. A doctors note or leave assigned on the “leave calendar” is the only
exceptions.
- DO NOT ASK ME RE YOUR LEAVE! I can’t say no and people are misusing my goodness.
- Any extra days leave over the days due to your annual leave taken this year will be deducted from your leave for 2013. It applies to staff that does
not qualify for leave as yet as well.
- Being an employee in the hospitality industry and business is seasonal, leave will be granted in season’s that are not busy.
General
- If ANY staff member walks on the premises and sees a paper, mop-string, dirty ashtray etc., it’s your responsibility to clean up.
- If you walk in the garden and smell or see dog-poo, make sure you ask one of the gardeners to pick it up IMMEDIATELY
- When you pass reception and the floor is dirty, take a mop and clean. Guests arrive at various times and it must be clean at all times.
- If you use ANYTHING on the premises, make sure you return it where you found it!
- Make sure no glasses, cups, etc are left standing around for me to clean up after shifts.
- The umbrellas provided are for guests and not staff. Buy your own umbrella. DO NOT ASK ME if you can borrow one!
- Before the gate is opened for anyone make sure the dogs are at the back. Make sure that all gates are closed at all times, including the small gate
at room 12.
- DO NOT slam the gate at room 12!
- No loud talking. In the laundry rooms 3 and 12 is close. In the kitchen, room 19 and 20 is close.
- Make sure the kitchen lights are switched off before locking up.
- If any air conditioner or main lights is found to be on during the day, switch off
- NO leftovers to be eaten by staff. Only staff who’s food is part of their package are allowed food. Left-overs to be frozen.
- Name Tags to be worn if you’re on duty, AT ALL TIMES
- If you use a toilet, make sure it’s clean and the lid is down.
- If you are in the presence of someone who only understands English, speak English then, it’s only good manners.
- No amenities to be used by staff.
- If I ask a staff member to do something, do it immediately. If you refrain to complete the task its seen as not following out an instruction. I can’t
explain every time why I want you to do something, I mention because it’s a priority at that specific moment.
- With the new telephone system installed, the radio policy still exists. All staff who has a radio assigned to them, keep it handy and switched on.
Look after your radio, that's why it's got your name at the back of it. Replacement of each radio is R450. The staff-member who is responsible for the
radio will pay for it should it break due to negligence.
Reception
- Suite Keys: The reception staff on duty must check and see if all the keys has been returned. If not, contact the guest immediately to return keys.
- I see on the system that numbers activated on the system is not being removed after check-out! I ask this for a reason! Please respect what I ask!
- Guests to be addressed as Sir and Mam at all times
- If a late-check in is expected, the staff member on duty must wait for check in, NO exceptions. That was an agreement when you accepted the job.
- No more than 1 phone-call to a guest is allowed for information on ETA.
- No guests uses my telephones to phone their companies.
- Telephones are used too easily. Send emails please!
- No glasses or cups on my furniture
- Music to be on AT ALL TIMES. DO NOT turn down the volume so that you can’t hear the music.
- Incense to be lit AL ALL TIMES. I smoke in the house and there's often dog- and food-smells.
- All outdoor lights to be switched on at dawn if you’re on duty. Not before dawn.
- Suite-Checks: A run-through to switch on lights and TV’s is not seen as making sure everything is ready for guests to check in!
o Beds to be made 100%. Check pillows, night frills, marks on bedding, etc.
o NO OTHER LIGHTS except bedside lamps and bathroom lamps to be on.
o If you see an out of order globe make sure you report or replace immediately.
o Carpets to be checked EVERY DAY, if not clean report to housekeeping.
o Make sure remote controls are placed in orderly position and are clean.
o Lamps shades to be level and not crooked and skew. Must be dust free!
o Curtains tied back correctly
o All surfaces to be dust-free
o Coffee bays to be neat and fully stocked.
o Make sure fridges are clean at all times.
o Lift glasses and see that that they are washed properly.
o If guests are already checked in, make sure their rooms are checked just as thoroughly as unoccupied rooms and their lights MUST be switched on.
o If guests were in and left again before your shift ends, enter the room and make neat as well as ensuring the rooms are checked thoroughly and be fresh when
they return later the evening.
o Toilet rolls: There must always be one roll on the toilet roll holder (folded as requested) and a full one on top of the toilet.
o Months passed without anyone informing me that there's no air-freshner! I've got standards to keep up with!
o Make sure the white sanitary-ware is clean. (specially rooms 10, 11 and 12)
o Make sure there’s no grass-dust on the beds in 10, 11 and 12.
o Towels to be checked for hair.
o Televisions on 101 (Mnet) - no other channels before guests check in and on moderate volume.
- Outside chair seat-scatters to be put out before breakfast and left in the kitchen before you go off-duty. (Awkward weather is an exception)
- See that cars are parked within lines. If not, please phone the guest in his/her suite and request that they park in lines.
- When going off-duty, switch off lights as asked of you!
- Be aware of what’s happening around you. Safety first.
- Occupation-board (laundry) to be updated IMMEDIATELY if any changes regarding reservations and/or splits.
- Occupation-board (kitchen) to be updated IMMEDIATELY if any changes regarding reservation-meals occur.
- Cash Payments: Cash to be given to me directly after payment.
- I installed an expensive intercom-system for safety reasons. DO NOT just open the gate without knowing who is standing at the gate. Robbers look
just as neat and good as any other person on the street.
Loans
- Do not ask me for money on my way out as not everybody is honest enough to go and report the loan to reception. Reception will give me the
message and I will leave the loan-money there if funds are available.
- You cannot loan more than 25% of your monthly salary. If you’d like me to give you your pay fortnightly that month please inform me then it can be
arranged if possible.
Outside
- Fountain in front of reception always to be topped up and full. If you are aware of the fountain water level being low, please inform one of the garden-boys.
- Outside tables and chairs always to be standing correctly and not skew. Chairs to be placed orderly in front of tables.
- Ashtrays to be clean at all times.
- Garage to be cleaned (floor swept and mopped) at least twice a week.
